Sensor-Actuator Search

Settings under "Configuration" > "Sensor/Actuator Search." The MSR appliances are equipped with I2C ports. You can use any sensors and actuators from the ALLNET product line that operate exclusively at a supply voltage of 3.3 V. Connection is either direct or via a so-called multiplex hub (also via I2C only, and only one per port).

Add a Sensor/Actuator

Proceed as follows (illustrations show the ALL3500):

  1. Select all ports: Click the "Select All" button to include all I2C ports in the search.

  2. Select a specific port: If your device has only one I2C port, or if you know exactly which I2C port your sensor or actuator is connected to, select the port with a click of the mouse.

  3. All selected connections should now be highlighted in green.

  4. Simulate (On/Off): Click the “Simulate…” button (On: button is highlighted in orange) to run the sensor/actuator search in debug mode. The system will perform a complete search for connected sensors and actuators. However, the sensors/actuators found are not added to the main page.

In our case, we leave the "Simulate" function turned off (default).

  1. Start the search: Now click “Start.” The search is displayed as an animation.

  2. Search Complete: Once the search is complete, all detected sensors and actuators are listed under "Results" along with a brief description. The number of sensors and actuators connected to this port is shown in square brackets.

Note: Sensors that have already been added to the main page will no longer be listed when you perform a new search. The message "No new sensors/actuators found" will be displayed.

  1. Sensor/Actuator on the Main Page: In our example, the temperature sensor is now displayed on the web interface (under the “Main Page” > “Overview” menu) and can be further configured.

Add a Sensor/Actuator via a Multiplex Hub

If you want to add a sensor/actuator via an I2C multiplex hub, such as the ALL4404 or ALL4504, the procedure is essentially the same as that described in Section 8.2.1 on page 68. The following example uses the ALL4504 multiplex hub with 8 I2C sensor/actuator ports. The connection to the host is made here via I2C port "1" (marked in purple) of the ALL3500.

  1. Click “Select All” to select all I2C ports.
  1. Click "Start" to scan all ports marked in green.
  1. In our case, an ALL4452 motion detector is connected to the multiplex hub. This is a "single switching input" type. Click "Select." The sensor field will be highlighted in "green." Then confirm by clicking "Apply Selection."
  1. The search is now complete, and the sensors/actuators connected to the Multiplex hub appear at the top of the list. In the "Connection" column, the first digit indicates the port number on the host (highlighted in yellow), and the second digit indicates the port number on the hub (highlighted in orange). The number of sensors/actuators connected to this port is shown in square brackets.
  1. Under the "Home" > "Overview" menu, you will now see the new connected sensor. In the case of our motion sensor, this means the Display "0" indicates no movement. A "1" means that the sensor has detected movement. You can now define an action to activate an actuator.
